Choose a Planning Visit or a Defined Installation Request

Decide whether your installation is ready to scope from an item list or needs an on-site planning discussion, with clear questions and next steps.

Completed lobby artwork at Ballew Puryear’s Raleigh office illustrates an installation result; it is not a photograph of a planning visit.

A useful installation inquiry starts with the question you need answered. If the products and positions are known, you may be ready to request review of a defined installation. If the main uncertainties are the arrangement, access or sequence, a planning discussion may be the more useful first step.

Handydux’s Custom Patch Hats project in Raleigh includes a recorded planning visit before later sign, television and wall-feature phases. The visit assessed the proposed location, wiring route, hardware and wall space. That is evidence of planning as a distinct stage in one project, not a promise that every new idea can be installed or that a planning visit includes the later work.

Start with what is already decided

Write down the items you have, their product information and the rooms where they belong. Then identify the decisions that remain. “We have three framed works and approved positions” is a different starting point from “We have several possible pieces and do not know which wall to use.”

Useful initial photographs show the room, the item and the relevant supplied hardware. The installation preparation guide covers that information in detail. Here, the purpose is to judge whether the missing information is a simple product detail or a broader planning question.

Do not turn an unknown into a guessed specification just to finish a request. A mirror without reliable weight information, a custom object without a mounting method or furniture without an identified inventory should remain marked for review.

Use a defined request when the work is identifiable

A defined request names the item, the location and the requested task. It can still require confirmation of access, wall conditions and scheduling. The important difference is that the client is asking for a specific installation rather than asking the installer to develop the whole plan without an agreed planning scope.

For example, a known television and mount with a chosen room can be submitted through the relevant TV service. A supplied artwork with a proposed position belongs with art installation. A list of exact furniture models can support an assembly review.

Submitting those details is not the same as receiving a confirmed appointment. Some work begins as a request because the actual scope needs assessment. Keep the next-step confirmation separate from the act of sending the inquiry.

Give a planning visit a short agenda

If the main decisions require seeing the room, list the questions you want the visit to answer. These might include which placement options are practical to review, how several tasks relate to one another, or what product and access information is still needed before installation can be scoped.

Bring the available dimensions, product links and any designer’s plan. Identify decisions already approved so time is not spent reopening them unnecessarily. Name the person who can approve a preferred option or explain a constraint.

A planning visit should finish with understandable next steps: what has been discussed, what information remains missing and which work needs a separate installation scope. Do not assume every product selection, technical design or written specialist deliverable is included without confirming it.

Choose the right kind of assessment

The general Project Planning Visit is separate from installation. Specialized fine-art or office requests may require a different assessment because the handling, inventory or scope questions differ.

For fragile or unusual works, use Designer & Fine-Art Installation to explain the actual concerns. For an office with an unknown furniture inventory, start with Office Furniture Assembly & Setup and describe what is known. A general planning booking should not be used to imply that specialized handling, assembly or transport has already been included.

The same boundary applies to work outside the current installation scope. If an idea depends on new electrical work, construction, conservation or another specialist, identify that dependency. Planning an installation does not establish an offer to perform every related trade.

Keep the plan connected to the eventual request

After decisions are made, update the item list and retain the agreed references. If a product, wall or furniture arrangement changes, flag the change when requesting the installation. An earlier discussion cannot silently cover a materially different job.

Use a short remaining-actions list rather than a vague “ready” label. For example, an approved art arrangement may still await the framed pieces, while an office furniture plan may still await product instructions. The next visit can then be discussed using the actual readiness of the work.

Start with the current planning service if the key task is deciding how to proceed. If the work is already defined, use the matching installation service and send the product and site details. The value of the first step is that it answers the right question and leaves the later work clearly identified.
